Consultation on three-night weekend for Papdale Halls residents and potential effect on ferry and school timetables
Consultation closes: 1 July 2014
The period of consultation is from Tuesday 3 June until Tuesday 1 July 2014
Isles parents and parent councils have asked the Council to consider the feasibility of enabling isles pupils to spend three nights at home each weekend. At present, most Outer North Isles pupils travel home on Fridays and back to Kirkwall on Sundays. The request is that the inward journey should take place on Monday mornings.
This consultation seeks the views of all those potentially affected, or their representatives. This includes: all current KGS pupils and their parents; pupils not yet at KGS (P4 – S4) and their parents; all staff at KGS and Papdale Halls; all community councils and parent councils in areas whose pupils attend KGS, the wider community across Orkney who have an interest in ferry transport to the isles.
The consultation will also help in the assessment of the likely impact of making the required changes to either or both the ferry timetable and school day start/finish time.
For more details, read the Consultation Background available from the Related Downloads section on Orkney Islands Council website.
The outcome of this consultation, along with any associated recommendations on how to progress the three-night weekend, will be reported to a meeting of Education, Leisure and Housing Committee in September 2014.

PARENTZONE NEWS
Parentzone website
Over
the coming months you will notice changes being made to the Parentzone website as we add new
content and make some changes to the search functionality, navigation and
design.
We
are going to create a new-look, engaging website which will be more responsive
to user needs and will give parents and carers access to high quality
information on education in Scotland
and all relevant information on schools.
We
therefore want to increase awareness of the Parentzone website as much as
possible amongst parents and carers and one way of doing this is ensuring that
all school and parent council websites and Facebook pages have a prominent link
to Parentzone.
Therefore
we would be grateful if you could forward on to your contacts the attached
jpegs of the Parentzone logo, which they can use on their school and parent
council websites and Facebook pages to link to the Parentzone website: http://www.educationscotland.gov.uk/parentzone/.
If
you have any questions or would like to discuss this please do not hesitate to
contact me.
Many
thanks.
Kind
regards,
Tegwen
